Location of roles

All of our positions will list a location, this is where the position you apply for is based, for example;

  • South Auckland – you will likely be based in Manukau and work within the surrounding communities.

  • West Auckland – you will work in west Auckland communities (This is a new service and the office location is yet to be confirmed)

  • Central Auckland – you will likely be based in Onehunga and work within the surrounding communities.

How do I apply for the roles?

  • Visit our website for more information about the role you are interested in

  • Download a copy of the Roles Description to see if the roles is what you are looking for

  • Download and complete an online Application for Employment form

  • Upload your current Resume & Cover letter to the website

  • You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application from vacancies@mahitahi.co.nz

What do I need to have to apply to work for Mahitahi?

All applicants must have

  • A clean Class 1 Full New Zealand driver licence

  • Provide two forms of ID, NZ driver licence and one other

  • A recognised qualification for the roles (where applicable) or be willing to support people

  • Agree to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

  • Provide evidence of the Covid-19 vaccination/s

  • Provide a New Zealand Citizen or hold a Permanent Visa (Where applicable)

Desired skills and attributes

  • Experience working in any of the mental health, addictions, social or disability sectors

  • Lived experience either self or with whānau or friends

  • Good communication skills

  • An awareness of or willingness to learn Tikanga Māori practices

  • A passion to help and support others to fulfil their dreams and aspirations is a must

  • Effective time management

  • Positive attitude

  • Good at problem solving

  • Good computer and written skills

Can I talk to someone about the position?

  • Yes, you can phone our reception or email vacancies.

  • Ask reception to transfer you to the Human Resources Officer on (09) 262-4533 during business hours – 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Can I still apply if I don’t have a Class 1 Full NZ Driver Licence?

  • You may be considered for a role, if you have your NZ Restricted driver licence and can get your Class 1 full driver licence within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Record this in your application when applying so we can discuss this with you.

What is the Salary?

  • This is dependent on the roles you are applying for, your qualifications and experience.

  • We like to discuss this during the interview so we can discuss the above in more detail.

  • For all community support worker roles, The Pay equity settlement for Mental Health workers applies.

Is the position Full-time
or Part-time?

  • This is dependent on the role you are applying for but most advertised roles are full-time which is 40 hours per week and usually 8:30 am – 5 pm. (Note: Some roles may be negotiated on a flexible arrangement to suite the schedules of Whānau whaiora support needs)

  • If the role you are interested in is part-time or rostered, this will be noted in the advert.

What is the start date?

  • We consider any notice periods or conditions for employment for each applicant, these can be discussed during interview. You can record this in the applicant form.

Is there training?

  • Yes, we provide on the job training

  • Orientation to Mahitahi and the role

  • Day to day buddy guidance during orientation

  • Apprenticeship opportunity to complete the National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 certificate (For Community Support worker roles)

  • Mandatory and job specific training

  • Opportunities for further development
